How I got started with maternity photography

My first maternity session was an outside shoot with one of my friends. She was just a few weeks out from giving birth when I first announced to everyone that I started a photography business.

When you first start out doing photography you take almost every opportunity to use your camera! I didn’t think too much about what I would need for this kind of shoot but I did look up poses.

At this time I didn’t know much about scouting for locations so I just recommended going downtown in the park!

Luckily, we had many little areas to change our background. My first maternity session lasted about 45mins and I was very proud of my work. I remember being a little nervous because I was still learning my camera but I did the best I could!

If you’re looking for ways to get into maternity photography, I would recommend asking someone you know or simply introducing yourself to a pregnant woman you see out and letting her know your goals and maybe offering a free shoot or discounted session if you’re just getting into photography.

Sometimes we just have to put ourselves out there and there’s nothing wrong with that.

I wish you all the best and thank you for reading my first blog!

Until next time,

Kimberly
